The Colorado River is one of the most diverted, dammed, and litigated rivers in the world. The West relies on it for irrigation, drinking water, and electricity, and the unquenchable demand has permanently altered the river’s ecology. Through the images of award-winning photographer Pete McBride, this exhibition follows the length of the Colorado’s 1,450-mile course from its headwaters high in the Colorado Rockies to its parched delta at the Sea of Cortez. McBride shot many of the photographs from the air to heighten public awareness of the geography “where we as humans have been, how we connect to the earth, and how nature relates to itself.”
