During the Civil War, photographers such as George Barnard, Mathew Brady, and Alexander Gardner documented a divided nation with a medium still in its infancy. In honor of the 150th anniversary of the end of hostilities between the North and South, The Rockwell Museum will exhibit a selection of rare historical images, ranging from battlefield scenes to portraits of influential figures like Ulysses S. Grant and Harriet Tubman. Together, the photographs memorialize the war’s fallen soldiers, reflect the era’s political and social landscape, and tell the story of our country’s greatest conflict.
