The latest Yellowstone prequel premieres Dec. 18.
And there it was, right smack dab in the middle of the two-hour Season 5 premiere of Yellowstone: The first teaser trailer for 1923, the latest prequel to Taylor Sheridan’s extraordinarily popular Paramount Network series and the first sequel to his well-received 1883.
This latest installment of the Dutton family origin story focuses on a new generation of Duttons led by patriarch Jacob (Harrison Ford) and matriarch Cara (Helen Mirren), and explores a fateful early 20th-century period when pandemics, historic drought, post-World War I traumas, the end of Prohibition, and the start of the Great Depression all drastically affect life in the Mountain West.

The premiere episode of 1923 will air simultaneously on Paramount Network and Paramount+ on Sunday, Dec. 18. Subsequent episodes will air on Paramount+.
In addition to Ford and Mirren, the 1923 cast includes Darren Mann (Animal Kingdom), Michelle Randolph (A Snow White Christmas), James Badge Dale (Hightown), Marley Shelton (Scream), Brian Geraghty (Big Sky), Aminah Nieves (Blueberry) and Jerome Flynn (Game of Thrones). According to published reports, Timothy Dalton (License to Kill, The Living Daylights) also will play a key supporting role.
