Grady Lee Richmond is a character actor who first connected with a couple of his costars on Two and a Half Men.
Grady Lee Richmond shows up a lot on TV, appearing in commercials for motor oil, water filters, phone services, and fast food joints. But he is most proud of being recognized generally as “the scary biker dude with the full beard,” and now, as Hank ‘the barfly’ in The Ranch — beard and long hair intact.
He sees that unruly facial hair almost as his alter ego. “When I first started to act, I thought I’d be the next George Clooney, but when that didn’t work out, I grew a beard and started getting roles.” Getting a bit cocky, Richmond decided to shave it off, “and didn’t work for a solid year.”
Hank is one of Richmond’s favorite characters of his career. “I play a busybody bar-fly who is always trying to impress the patrons at [Debra Winger’s character] Maggie’s bar. Always looking for attention, especially from Maggie, Hank will take all the free beers he can get, and occasionally will even buy a brew.”
Richmond has had more than a decade of great character roles behind him, from guest-starring in Two and a Half Men (where he met Ashton Kutcher and Conchata Farrell, who occasionally plays his barstool companion and sometime girlfriend on The Ranch) to playing Ishmael Polk on the FX anthology series American Horror Story.
“Conchata plays my girlfriend who also happens to be my cousin,” Richmond says with a smile. “We met at a wedding, so what could be better than that?”
